Fancy a long weekend in the beautiful Minster town of Beverley, singing late seventeenth century music of the Chapel Royal? Like all of The Liturgical Music Courses, the Beverley Short Course involves lots of public performances and expert tuition, but it is only four and a half days long - perfect for a winter break!
The 2009 Beverley Short Course starts in Beverley on the evening of Wednesday 18th February with an informal reception and warm-up session. On Thursday Dr Andrew Padmore will lead the first of his workshops and in the evening we will sing a Choral Evensong in Beverley's beautiful Gothic minster church. Friday will be spent in rehearsal and Dr Padmore will lead another workshop session in the evening.
On Saturday we travel to York where we will sing a recital in York Minster - the largest gothic cathedral in Northern Europe.
Later in the day the course director, Richard Smith, will give an organ recital in Beverley Minster. The following morning we will sing the Sunday Eucharist in Beverley Minster and the course will end that evening with a Choral Evensong.
As always, there will be solo and semi-chorus opportunities for suitably accomplished singers.
The course fees include a light meal on Thursday, Friday and Sunday, and the loan of all music and rehearsal CDs. They also include transport to York on Saturday.
Beverley is a fairly small, walled town and has several reasonably-priced guest houses. The Minster is centrally located, and Beverley has a train station.
Dr Andrew Padmore is an internationally respected choral specialist. He has held posts as Organist and Master of the Choristers at the cathedrals of Belfast and Cork, and has worked with a wide range of choirs, from small professional ensembles at the BBC to large forces like the famous Huddersfield Choral Society. He is also a busy adjudicator/jurist for International Choral Festivals and an examiner for the Royal Schools of Music (also being a mentor for their professional teaching qualification course and a specialist examiner for their Choral Singing Syllabus and for diplomas).
Beverley Minster - "....generally regarded as the most impressive (architecturally speaking) church in England that is not a cathedral...."
