The Exeter Liturgical Music Course gives us the opportunity to sing some of the best-loved cathedral music in the stunning surroundings of Exeter Cathedral and Buckfast Abbey. Thomas Attwood Walmisley's D minor Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis, the B minor settings of T.Tertius Noble, John Ireland's famous anthem, Greater Love....experienced church singers will find fresh approaches to this enduring repertoire, and those from other backgrounds will wonder how they ever did without it!
The 2009 course starts in central Exeter on the evening of Monday 6th July with an informal reception and warm-up session. Tuesday will be spent in rehearsal, and on Wednesday we travel to Buckfast Abbey, on the edge of Dartmoor, to sing an afternoon concert. On Friday we perform a lunchtime concert, and later Choral Evensong, in Exeter Cathedral, and the weekend will be spent singing all of the choral services there.
Repertoire will also include music by, amongst others, C.V.Stanford, Henry Purcell and William Byrd. There will be opportunities for solo/semichorus work, and Graham Wili will be running more of his inspirational voice development workshops.
The Liturgical Music Courses will not be arranging accommodation for this course. There are many reasonably-priced guest houses in and around Exeter, and a list of these will be sent out with the course booklet.
