This year's Malvern Course focuses mainly on the high polyphonic style of Southern Europe, and on the repertoire that set the stage for the baroque period - the Stile Moderno of Claudio Monteverdi and his circle.

Malvern 2009 starts in Worcester on the evening of Monday 17th August with an informal reception and warm-up session.  Tuesday will be spent in rehearsal, and on Wednesday we travel to Great Malvern Priory to sing an afternoon concert. On Thursday we continue rehearsals and on Friday we will perform a lunchtime concert in the quire of Gloucester Cathedral. The weekend will be spent singing the services in Worcester Cathedral.

Image of Claudio MonteverdiRepertoire will include music by Tomas Luis de Victoria, Giovanni Palestrina and Claudio Monteverdi. There will be opportunities for semi-chorus and possibly solo work for suitably accomplished singers, which will be supported by small-group voice coaching sessions. In addition to rehearsals for the main events, Graham Wili will be running his popular voice development workshops. There will be opportunities to explore the historical context of the works we will be singing, and to discuss the fascinating musical controversies of the late renaissance.

The Liturgical Music Courses will not be arranging communal accommodation for the Malvern 2009 course. There are many reasonably priced guest houses in Worcester and we will include a list of these in the course booklet.
